Runs on your devicePress Start to begin. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
How to use
- Press Start test and use full screen.
- Step through the gradients and the near-black and near-white blocks.
- Look for hard steps, tints and squares you cannot tell apart.
Good to know
Every stripe uses an exact 8-bit level, with no dithering. Visible hard steps or color casts in a grey gradient point to the display, its settings or a night-light filter.
In the near-black blocks most good screens show every square from about level 5 upward. Use full screen, turn off night mode and view straight on.

Questions
What causes banding?
8-bit panels, aggressive compression, color profiles, night-light filters and low-quality scaling can all create visible steps.
How many dark squares should I see?
On a good, calibrated screen, most squares from about level 5 are visible. If many merge into black, shadows are crushed.
