ONE SMALL TASK, DONE.

Mono or Stereo Checker

Find out whether an audio file is really stereo, dual mono, silent on one side or out of phase.

Runs on your device

How to use

  1. Choose an audio file.
  2. Wait for the check.
  3. Read the result and the channel measurements.

Good to know

The check compares the left and right channels sample by sample and reports their correlation and the side level against the mid.

Negative correlation means parts of the sound will cancel when played on a single speaker.

Questions

Why does it matter if a file is dual mono?

It takes twice the space of mono without adding width, and some platforms treat it as stereo.

What does out of phase mean?

One channel is inverted. On a phone speaker or mono system, much of the sound can disappear.
